Carovigno

Situated half way between Brindisi and Ostuni on a hill top just a short distance from the Adriatic Sea are the town's houses. Carbina was founded by the Osci and destroyed by theTarentini, who also exterminated all the town's inhabitants. The oldest part of the town, is the section that was once part of rocca or castle. The rocca was subsequently surrounded by high stone walls which included four separate towers erected after 1390 by the Prince of Taranto. Carovigno fell firstly under Norman rule and later under that of the Angioini and Aragonesi and was governed by numerous feudal rulers.
